WHAT SURNAME REALLY MEANS

Surname is as important as our normal names, people bear three names but it's not mandated that someone must bear three names, but it is mandated that someone must bear at least two names and surname is the first name followed by your real name. People often argues that someone name must come before his/her surname, if you believe it should be so then that means you didn't originate from any family or people didn't give birth to you or may be you fell down from heaven and grew up the same day, but if this isn't your case if you know you were giving birth to by people referred to as parents then their name should come before yours. we often think surname must be the name of the father of the child or the name of the child's grandfather, but it's not always like that because surname can be choosing, but any name whatsoever you wish to choose must be the same with all the family members. Having established the above fact, what then is Surname? According to Google " surname is a hereditary name common to all members of the family as distinct from a forename or a giving name, from the above definition its obvious here that one must bear the name of the father that gave birth to him as to the word hereditary and this is contradicting what I said earlier the only thing that accords with my above explanation in the Google definition of surname is the fact that the name must be common to all the members of the family, Another Google definition says Surname is sometime called last name. the name a person has in common with other family members as distinguished from a given name or first name, family name. In addition to that it's also a name added to a person name as one indicating the circumstance of birth or some characteristics or achievement. Going by that definition it means someone can choose a name to be his/her surname even if the name is not the name of his/her father that gave birth to him/her, but any name that will be choosing must be common to all other family members. And this is where the problem comes, because as the last born of the family you can't impose a new surname on your elders they won't listen no matter what, and as long as you are the only one bearing the name in your family then it's not a surname. Generally from my own perspective, there are two types of surname a hereditary surname and choosing Surname, hereditary surname is bearing the name of your father or the name of your grandfather while a choosing Surname is the name all family members agree to be bearing due to one circumstance or another.
